Drawing Smackdown @ Art Lot a huge success!
Back on December 6th Matt Blackwell presided over an assembly of high powered artists who kindly volunteered to help keep the WorldWiDeTour09 project off course. The price for participation was to write down an idea for a drawing and throw it into a hat. When an idea was selected the group would draw for 15 minutes on that theme and then send it over to the WorldWiDeTour09 Gallery for viewing. Some of the topics were things like: "A new train system for America", "A website menu page for the Angel of Mercy", "Blau, Blah, Blue", "Lunch break at the battle of Gettysburg", "The God particle meets Henry Hudson", "The darkest part of your soul revealed" and "The importance of food". It was a mighty cold day, but the drawings this otherwise motley group produced are red hot! Take a look. Participants included John Wilkes, Alex Gingrow, Ann Chen, Summer Wheat, Michael Scoggins, Ian Burns, Sue Canning, Bill Riley and of course Blackwell and Bjerklie were there.

The artist previously called Uproarious Big Hat will once again be broadcasting his studio activities live, this time from Red Hook, Brooklyn. In times past, Big Hat only worked from undisclosed locations (due to unfair licensing problems). Finally Big Hat has found an actual location and an official permit to broadcast. A television monitor will be stationed at the outbound B61 bus stop at Sackett and Columbia Street in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Big Hat will be painting live and taking requests from all serious art lovers to make a painting of any location or incident they might have seen along the B61 route. With the holidays in sight, Big Hat will be offering many Holiday specials. Prices are negotiable and all offers will be considered. In between the live painting sessions, there will be plenty of guests, comedy, poetry readings, money making, dancing, pie fights and deals, deals, deals.Festivities begin on Saturday, December 19th, 2009, from 6pm til 10pm. A more detailed calendar of events is forthcoming. Events will continue through New Year's and probably after that too until John and Matt, the World Wide Tour artists kick him out.World Wide Tour '09Art Lot206 Columbia StreetBrooklyn, NY 11231

Over the weekend, Matt and John installed a few more pieces in between naps and fireside chats in the shack/cabin/shanty. Last night, many friendly Triangle folk came by to view the ever-changing show. To ward off the evening chill, many of us spent the night huddled around the stove drinking cider and red wine. The conversation drifted from tips to attract crows, rabid squirrels and apple orchards in Maine and France.
Both Matt and John come to the Art Lot several times a week. If you see the gate open, stop by and have a look!
Here are a few more pictures, taken by our friend and talented photographer, Etienne Frossard. More to come soon.
